Docent

Docents play a key role in our education programs both on-site and off-site. They are specially trained to educate the public about our animals, conservation efforts, and the natural world. Docents lead tours, give presentations, and participate in school programs, helping visitors develop an appreciation for wildlife and inspiring conservation. This position requires a year-long commitment, with annual training and ongoing requirements. Docents also have the opportunity to learn how to handle education ambassador animals, gaining hands-on experience with the zoo’s animals. See the Docent page for more info.

Interns

Interns gain hands-on experience by assisting in various departments throughout the zoo. Our internships are real-world, working positions with responsibilities that vary by department. We offer seasonal internships in the Education Department, as well as for Vet and Animal Care Technicians, available in the summer, fall, and spring. See the Intern page for more info.

Group Volunteers

Group Volunteers provide an excellent opportunity for community groups, school groups, churches, businesses, and other organizations to volunteer together. Group volunteer days are scheduled as needed and typically involve a one-day commitment. These projects may take place throughout the year and vary based on the zoo’s needs. See the Group Volunteer page for more info.

Service-learning volunteers

These volunteers assist with specific one-day projects throughout the year, such as event support, groundskeeping, and general cleaning around the zoo. These are scheduled in advance and are ideal for middle and high school students looking for short-term volunteer opportunities. These one-day commitments are a great way for young volunteers to contribute while gaining experience. See the Service-Learning page for lists of upcoming dates and to sign up.
