Docent Program at Salisbury Zoo
The Salisbury Zoo’s Docent Program has been an integral part of the zoo for over 50 years. This program offers a unique opportunity for individuals to become specially trained educators who share their passion for animals, nature, and conservation with the public. Docents play an essential role in educating visitors both on-site and off-site, leading guided tours, conducting presentations, and participating in off-site programs.
This program is a year-long commitment with annual training and ongoing requirements to ensure docents remain well-informed about the zoo’s animals and conservation efforts. Docents also have the opportunity to learn how to handle education ambassador animals, providing them with hands-on experience in animal care and public interaction.
By becoming a docent, volunteers help foster a deeper appreciation for wildlife and inspire others to engage in conservation efforts, making a significant impact on the zoo and the community.
